Leire Pajín

Leire Pajín Iraola (born September 16, 1976) is a Spanish socialist politician and the current Minister of Health, Equality and Social Policy in the cabinet led by Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.[1]

She was born in San Sebastián but moved with her parents to Benidorm when she was a child. She graduated at the University of Alicante with a Sociology degree in 1998.

In 2000 and 2004 Pajín was elected to the Congress of Deputies representing Alicante.

Although she has no professional experience outside her political party, she was chosen to serve as the Secretary of State for International Cooperation from 2004 to 2008 in the first Zapatero government. In 2010 she took office as Minister of Health.
